Artistic Residencies

Museu Zer0 can take on up to six artists in residence at any one time, providing varying ways in which to manage their residency (whether organised by the artist themselves, they are welcomed to the programme following a request, or in partnership with other museums and art institutions).
The second edition of AIR Algarve is already underway, once again in partnership with the V2_ Centre in Rotterdam, curated by Boris Debackere and Joana Carmo.

Past residencies

Gary Hill Residency

The north American artist Gary Hill, who is often considered to be one of the fathers of video art, was an artist in residency in Tavira in 2018, where he put together his work ‘Linguistic Spill in the Boiler Hall’, which was shown at the Maat from the 17th May to the 17th September 2018.

1st and 2nd editions of V2_ + Museu Zer0 Air Algarve Residency

Museu Zer0 began working with the V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media Centre for Art and Technology in 2019 and 2020, in a joint residency programme that aimed to encourage art projects that respond to ecological challenges. The project challenged artists to use materials and incorporate ideas and messages into their work relating to the importance of sustainable development.

The 1st and 2nd editions of the programme lasted a week and were held at the V2_, in Rotterdam, ending in Tavira, where four works were produced by the selected artists.

Hosting of artists

Applying a variable geometry system, but primarily aiming to create in-situ digital artwork that will be displayed at Museu Zer0 itself, the application rules and criteria used to select artists interested in residencies at Museu Zer0 for periods varying between 2 weeks and 1 and 3 months will be displayed here.
