Mauro Amaral

Born to Angolan parents in Lisbon in 1976, he has lived in Faro since he was a child. Starting his art career at ARCA in 1998, he produced numerous performances and art experiences in around 20 countries until 2006.

He has held the titles of general coordinator and Artistic Director of Komboyo dos Lokos several times, the same titles at the International Festival of Street Arts and a flying performance of performing arts, as well as having been the Artistic Director of St John’s Parade in Wroclaw, Poland, twice.

In 2010, he produced award-winning documentary “Ilha” (island), which he co-directed with Carlos Fraga, about the fishing community of “Praia de Faro” beach and their fears of being displaced by the Polis Ria Formosa Project.

In the meantime, he circled back around to music, leading him to release solo EP “Somos” (We Are) in December 2016. He is also on the brink of releasing his first original album “Atos Aleatórios de gentileza” (Random Acts of Kindness).

In 2016, he also returned to the performing arts – after an almost 10-year break – helping put together the programme for, and producing, 3 editions of the Baixa Street Fest, in Faro.

In 2018, he created and directed both Euphoria 1 and Aquatropia stage performances.

He also produces work using Painting, Photography, Radio Art and Video Art.
