"The zer0 does not symbolise 0 void, 0 nothingness, but, on the contrary, it embodies 0 everything, fullness."
(Paulo Teixeira Pinto, Founder of the Zer0 Museum)
"The Museu Zer0 opens its doors in two stages, two complementary gestures that embody its own mission: to think of art as a continuous process, under construction, in dialogue with people, the territory and the future.
On 27 September, the Opening of the Museu Zer0 - I Moment, will be a symbolic first gesture shared with artists, the community and partners. It will be a time of presentation.
The director, João Vargues, will introduce the Museu Zer0 and show the results of two projects he has developed - Ágora (2023 to 2024) and Magalhães (2021 to 2023).
The General Programmer, Fátima Marques Pereira, presents the opening programme. Artists in residence who will be part of the future exhibition will reveal their processes, sharing the path of creation in progress.
This opening event will also feature an audiovisual performance 30×Nby @c + Visiophone (Pedro Tudela & Miguel Carvalhais, Rodrigo Carvalho), an experiment where sound, light and image intertwine with the computers themselves, summoned as creative partners.
Between these two times, two gestures, the Museum will remain open to the public, in production, in assembly, in creation. A living space where schools, institutions and visitors will be able to go behind the scenes, meet artists, dialogue with artistic processes and discover how an exhibition is built. This progressive opening affirms the Museu Zer0's commitment to cultural mediation and public education, showing that art is both the result and the journey.
The opening programme reflects a clear and integrated reading of the Museu Zer0's social, environmental and educational impact. All the activities have been designed in the light of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Strategic Priorities of the European UnionThis is in line with the major global commitments: the European Green Deal, the digital transition, promoting the European way of life and building an inclusive, people-centred economy.
Rooted in Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, in the heart of the Algarve's Barrocal regionThe Museu Zer0 is born out of the relationship between territory and community, projecting itself from the local to the global. This situated dimension gives it a unique identity, an artistic centre outside the major urban centres, which asserts itself as a hub for experimentation and critical thinking in digital art.
The Museu Zer0 was thus born as a founding gesture, not just an opening up of space, but the affirmation of a new centrality for digital art. A living organism that is built with everyone: artists, curators, researchers, the community, partners and audiences. Its structuring axes - Landscape and Nature, Environment and Sustainability, Territory and Identity, Tradition and Innovation, Heritage and Memory - guarantee coherence and continuity to its actions, combining creation, research, innovation and social responsibility."
