There is always something that remains: a trace, a memory, a transformation, a relationship that is still active between landscape, community, ecosystem and time.
The exhibition takes this notion of continuity as its starting point, where place is no longer understood as a fixed setting but becomes a living entity in a state of constant reconfiguration. ‘place-after’ suggests not merely a temporal sequence, but a continuous state – a place that exists after the artwork, after presence, and after conventional ways of thinking about territory, the museum, and contemporary creation and production.
In a world where ecological crises, the loss of biodiversity, global inequalities, and climate and geopolitical shifts are redefining the relationship between humanity and the land, ‘lugar-depois’ calls upon art as a critical language to reflect on what we have inherited, what we have destroyed, and what we can still care for.
At the Museu Zer0, we have brought together artists whose practices span installation, sound, media art and contemporary experimentation; the exhibition presents the Algarve Barrocal as an active space for situated creation and thought, where this place of rare singularity demonstrates that it is precisely in places with their own distinct identity that distinctive thinking takes place, and where art transforms the invisible into a living, shared urgency.
